The constitution of an Indian classroom is composite and largely multilingual. Linguists have keenly advocated using the multilingual approach in the second language classroom. Though teachers are to adopt different and innovative approaches to teach English, they lack suitable materials and methods. They look for examples and models to follow. Keeping this need in mind, we have prepared this book containing lessons which are tried out in various contexts and found to be effective. This is a first-of-its-kind effort to put together multilingual tasks in a single collection. These lessons will serve as samples for the teachers. Following these they can prepare similar materials and use them. The strength of this book is that the materials and tasks used have been trialled in different contexts across India and found to be effective.
