The book is unique in so far as it deals with an important aspect of Tughlaq at which critics have hinted, but which few have analysed in detail. In it, an attempt has been made to discuss critically the moral dilemma of Midsamad Tughlaq from the existentialist viewpoint. This is also in consonance with Girish Karnad's own statement that he conceived Tughlaq at a time when "existentialism was very much in the air
